As of the 2014-2015 school year:

Students
  • 15 students actively participated in the extracurricular program/ activity.
  • The students participate in the Young Eagles Flight program out at the Taos Municipal Airport. Students work with pilots from the community. They go through a pre-flight inspection of a plane. Additionally, pilots work with the students to walk them through every phase of flying a plane and even allow students to take the controls once they are in the air. Each students gets a minimum of a one hour individual flight with a local pilot.
  • The program is designed to reach out to at risk students and encourage them to stay in school and do well. Students are picked based on grades or behavior issues from previous years or to help them get involved in extra or co-curricular activities. This program is a gateway to success in school. If the students are able to maintain and abide by all the rules and requirements of the program they earn an all expense paid trip to OshKosh, Wisconsin where they spend four days learning about aviation in depth from what it takes to be a pilot to advances in aviation today. It is a unique opportunity to expose students to the opportunities available to them if they work hard and stay in school.
